An LG and Hutchison collaboration will see the world's first 3G UMTS (WCDMA) DVB-H phone launched right in time for the World Cup. Italy saw the launch of the LG-U900 at the Studio One Bravo Production in Milan. Exclusive isn't the word for the phone which will be supplied ahead of competitor models. The phone broadcasts TV programs (World Cup matches from June 6) on its wide-swing screen. A full charge will give you at least 3 hours of undisturbed couch potato viewing. Its UMTS DVB-H technology is an improved version of DVB-T or European terrestrial digital broadcast technology. The LG-U900 will also provide high-speed data transmission, channel services and high-resolution images. LG boasts an impressive portfolio, with all the latest mobile broadcast technologies - DVB-H, DMB, MediaFLO, as well as developing and being one of the first to introduce 3G UMTS DVB-H, SDMA MediaFLO and DMB phones. Experts predict that the mobile TV service will attract 300 million users globally by the end of 2006 and the mobile TV market will reach USD 1.5 billion by 2009.
